Keway Tournament Series

Introduction

The Keway Tournament Series (KTS) is a nation-wide tournament series for trainers to battle for supremacy. The KTS is battled out in arenas that are distributed throughout the Keway Region and open to the public for viewing (think a cross between the stadium battles in Galar, but with the sprites/atmosphere in Pokemon Flux). There are five arenas throughout the Keway region. The champion of each arena is recognized as the master of their territory (North, South, East, West, Central). However, while a trainer can be the reigning champion of each territory simultaneously, they can only claim to be master of one at a time. Before a player can become the champion and master of their arena, they must climb four tiers of competition: Poke Ball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and Master Ball.

Qualifying for a Tournament

To qualify for the first tournament in a town, a trainer must climb to a certain rank/rating within their tier (think Ash in the Galar TV program. Every win in the wild climbs his rank, every loss lowers it). To qualify for the Pokeball tier, a trainer must rank between 10,000-5,001. Great Ball is 5,000-3,001. Ultra Ball is 3,000-1,001. Master Ball is top 1,000 (can be massaged later).

Incentives for Playing in the KTS

  1. Earning EVs to distribute to the trainer’s Pokémon
  2. Earning Mints, Ability Capsules, Ability Patches, bottle caps (depending on tier)
  3. Ability to re-distribute EVs from one stat to another
  4. Unlocking higher tiers of competition with greater rewards
  5. Unlocking medals for the player and their Pokémon for each tournament top-16’d and won
  6. The ability to fight against higher-tiered trainers in the system (including famous trainers from Pokémon games at higher tiers)
  7. Following dynamic stories of other trainers who are climbing the ranks and falling alongside the player.
    1. How can we allow the player to ‘zoom in’ on trainers that the player finds interesting? How can we craft bespoke, organic narratives without a connection to the internet? (this might have to be sidelined or pared down until we can establish internet connection).
  8. Ability to unlock partners for pair doubles.
  9. Ability to gain cred in the regions the player is climbing in (which grants discounts at shops, ability to purchase property in the cities they’re climbing the ranks in, access to special events that are exclusive to the highest-achieving characters.
  10. The title of being da bes.
    1. Gaining “local legend” status. People in the area will mention things they've heard about the local champion.
  11. Ability to look back at past standings, stats, historical data (far back and detailed analytics)
